To kick off the excitement, Jordan’s Student Government has created this year's spirit week. The themes for the spirit week will be P.J. and Matching Sets, then Twin Day, followed by Denim Out, then Throwback/Decades, and ending the week with JHS pride. Participate with fellow Jordan Falcons by dressing along the lines of the themes!
Towards the end of Spirit Week, there is the homecoming football match. The game will occur on October 4th at 7 pm at Jordan's home football stadium. Jordan will play against Chapel Hill High School. To add to the excitement of the football game, Jordan High School will be hosting Falcon Fest before the game, which will include; food trucks, music, face painting, corn hole, soak the coach, and other fun activities with prizes included. Students will also attend a pep rally during fourth period on Friday, October 4th. Then on October 5th at 7 pm, the first homecoming dance in 20 years will be held. Tickets are on sale on the DPS OSP website.
The Homecoming Football Game
This football season has started with a bang and homecoming will keep it going. Jordan’s team is promising to bring an exciting game to us this homecoming! To gain insight into the football team’s perspective on the homecoming game, we talked to the players and coaches.
During interviews with the players and coaches, a recurring theme was redemption. One player expressed that homecoming is a chance to raise Jordan’s profile. Additionally, Coach King mentioned that their “whole season is redemption. Everybody has something that they want to redeem themselves for.”
When interviewed, sophomore Lareun Wilson, a defensive back for Jordan, included that “when our student section goes crazy, [the opposing team is] gonna get a little bit nervous,” and the sentiment was shared by another player. Not only does it intimidate the opposing team, but when asked, the players and coaches shared that a supportive student section motivates and encourages the players on the field.
Coach Wilson expressed that the Jordan “[football team] has good leaders,” and “homecoming will just present another challenge on [their] weekly basis.” He also hopes that “homecoming brings out even more people so that [Jordan’s] home fans will be recognized as one of the best in the area.”
The Homecoming Dance
Jordan has not had a homecoming dance for a whopping 20 years, but this year it will be brought back. Many students are excited to go to the dance, whether as a couple or as a group of friends.
A senior, Larissa, says that she “just wants to have fun with [her] friends” and that she expects the night to be “a lot of fun.” She is glad it has been brought back and thinks it a good decision. Many freshmen are also grateful they got this opportunity in their first year at Jordan. Caydin Hylton is expecting that “it will be a fun night of high energy and laughing,” and that seems to be the hope of other students. Not everyone feels excited about this event, like freshman Kaci Joyner who expressed that she would feel too overwhelmed after cheering at the game. However, the school hopes that it will be a tradition to keep! So get your tickets now, while they go fast, and get ready for a great night.
The upcoming homecoming events at Jordan High School, including the football game and the return of the homecoming dance, ensure that student spirits are high and that it will be a memorable and exciting homecoming week.
